Snuggle bear is pretty cute...

...but I'd rather snuggle up with Micky!

April Conquest!!!

Today the local TV station played The Monkees get out more dirt.
A great episode featuring the lovely Julie Newmar of Cat Woman fame as April Conquest.
Which brings me to my topic, her hair, makeup and clothes were fabulous!!!
No wonder all four boys fell for her!

Isn't this just the most divine dress you've ever seen? Though not clear in the picture, the outfit is completed with a pair of Twiggy-esque disco ball type earrings which were very big in the sixties. Towering curls and silver eye shadow complete this look.
I really like this photo because in it you can appreciate the subtle boldness of  April's makeup. Silver shadow on the eyelid, pale taupe on the orbital bone and subtly winged gun metal grey for the contour. The same shadow used for the eyelid is also used to line the bottom lash line. The upper lash line is done in thin and subtly winged charcoal or dark brown liner. The finishing touch is mascara and false eye lashes.

This outfit is just too cute, a mustard yellow sleeveless sweater paired with orange and white polka dot capri pants. And take a look at those orange Mary Janes!

Delightful Monkees fashion moments!!!

Micky Dolenz in his poncho which he later revealed was actually a table cloth  in which he cut a hole!!!
What an innovator!!!
Peter wearing a multi-colored polyester acrylic blend nehru shirt with scooped collar  and front closure. Accented with a beaded necklace.
Peter and Davy wearing some awesome Nehru shirts, Peter paired his with a lovely native american seed bead necklace.
I really love this picture because in it you can appreciate the texture of their garments, Micky's poncho appears to be silk or silk imitation and Davy's shirt looks to be an acrylic and cotton or polyester cotton blend.
Will drinking milk give me strong bones and make me as stylish as Davy?
The ever so stylish Peter Tork rocking a striped sweater in his signature color paired with burnt red skinnies and cream colored moccasins.

NEZ!!!

"Not only were the Monkees not a hoax to me, I thought it was first class landmark television and I have always been proud of it."
-Mike Nesmith-

Whenever I hear this song, I feel as if Mike were singing to me and only me.
I hope it makes you feel the same way!!

Monkees fun facts!!!

The Monkees was originally to star either The Lovin' Spoonful or The Dave Clark Five but seeing as both bands had prior engagements, a casting call was done to form a new band.

The chords of "Listen to the band" is actually "Nine times blue" backwards.

In 1967 The Monkees sold more albums than The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined.

Besides The Doors, The Monkees were one of the first bands to experiment with the Moog synthesizer in their music.

The address of The Monkees beach house was originally 1334 North Beechwood Ave. but in episode #17 "The case of the missing Monkee" it was changed to 1438 North Beechwood Ave. due to a continuation error on the part of the show's writers.

The Frodis caper was directed by Micky Dolenz and was about marijuana!! If you notice, Frodis the alien is a green plant that emits smoke which elicits feelings of peace and well being when inhaled!!

For all the Ellen Farnsby's out there

In honor of suicide awareness and prevention, a picture and a video. Remember suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. No problem, no matter how grave, is worth killing yourself over. Please, if you ever feel suicidal contact your local crisis hotline 1-800-273-8255

If only Mike Nesmith would come save the day every time someone tried to commit suicide....

Hold on Girl.

CELLULOID HEROES NEVER DIE!!! links to very touching articles

It was a close-up of Davy Jones dancing in slow motion. The impossibly young man seemed just an arm's reach away, as timeless as the song itself.

Whenever I think of The Monkees it's a sunny morning, the brightest colors and David Jones's eyes. Their music is perfect, as perfect as pop could ever be. Last Train to Clarksville has been written, and we are left with our own imperfection.

The only real thing in a cruel world is something imaginary.

Day's like these are when I turn on the television.
And, twist the volume all the way up.
Pleasant Valley Sunday blasts on an unpleasant Monday evening.
Unpleasant because no one understands and my throat is raw from trying to explain.
That is why I like these friends because they don't question or judge me.
Celluloid images, unbiased and perfect.
David Jones' eyes in a psychedelic kitchen.
Peter's tears mirror the ones flowing from my painted eyes.
It's Mike calling me shotgun and Micky making me laugh.
Today was such a mess though I'm sure that at the pad every day is groovy.
Here the clouds don't break but at the beach the sun is shining,
while four boys with long hair play volley ball without a care.
Their friendly smiles and understanding eyes fill me with a temporary warmth.
Alone in this world but for a television screen.

Warning: Serious post below

WHAT FOLLOWS IS NOT MEANT TO HURT.
IT'S JUST SOMETHING I HAD TO GET OFF MY CHEST.
THOUGH I'M SURE THAT FOR MOST OF YOU THIS IS NOT NEWS.

I really enjoy working on this blog and hope all of my followers enjoy reading it just as much. Making this blog a reality requires a lot of research and delving. Though most of the time I offer you goofy pictures I often come across things that are very disillusioning. The Monkees were real people, people all together different from who they played on TV. Yes, I know that they owe us nothing. But, still reading about Davy Jones, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz as real people and not Monkees is eye opening at best. It's akin to the feeling a child gets when they realize that Santa isn't real. So here's to the imagination and the magic of television.
"The best love is the one that never comes to fruition.
And, an idea is always better than the real thing."

This late and rare photo is what made me go off on such a tangent... I mean yeah it's Davy's butt...
But still doesn't this picture just pop your bubblegum bubble?

DAVY JONES!!!

How stoned does Davy look in the above photo? Whoa, man.

Davy reaching out toward the camera or you...

Davy looking super fine at the gym, Monkees in the ring.

Davy in a native american headdress. I'll be your squaw any day!

I guess I'm on a real Davy Jones kick this year...

A poem for Davy Jones

-HOMECOMING QUEEN MOURNS THE LOSS OF HER DAYDREAM BELIEVER-
I met a boy one Sunday while I was watching TV.
A lovely kid with big brown puppy dog eyes and the softest brown hair I've ever seen.
A boy I cannot touch for he is just an image, preserved on rolls of celluloid.
The only man who's never done me any harm.
Every Sunday I sprawl out on the sofa, and turn on the TV so that he can dance across my flat screen and into my heart.
My Sunday afternoon boyfriend, my Pleasant Valley Sunday paramour.
This loss is real though I've never met him in the flesh.
Only in dreams that never last long enough.
When I heard the news that his fleshy, red heart had stopped beating,
I felt as though mine had also.
Baby Jesus rest your soul, David.
Watching the re-runs and the tear drops they sting my eyes and ruin my makeup.
Despite the sad fact that you're no longer with us, I have to admit that our little arrangement is perfect.
Death may be a permanent condition but television love is forever
RIP
DAVY JONES
